Approximately one third of the reserve is covered by tropical forest,while another third is composed of savannas and mangroves. The lastthird contains coastal and marine habitats, including 70 miles of the second largest barrier reef in the world.

This great variety of habitats is home to all the mammal species normally found in the region, including jaguar, puma, ocelot, margay,jaguarundi, spider and howlermonkeys, tapir, white -lipped and collardpeccary, manatee(above), brocket and white tailed deer. In addition, the reserve provides habitat for crocodiles and beaches for nesting of the endangered green, loggerhead, hawksbill and leather back sea turtles. The Yucatan Peninsula provides habitat for 475 species of birds of which 336 are found in the SianKa'an.

Nestled at the southern end of the biosphere lies Punta Allen, a tranquil Mayan lobster fishing village at the end of 40 miles of sandy road. Once you near the village, you will find the ninety families that comprise the human inhabitants of this Biosphere; their ancestors have been living here in balance with nature for over a thousand years, so, retreat to paradise……experience history!

Even though this trip will take you back in time, Punta Allen is well equipped with three local restaurants in which you will find some of the best seafood dishes, there is also a cantina where you can meet the local Mayan fishermen and enjoy a cold cerveza. There is a local grocery store with all the necessities, as well as a tortilleria, an authentic tortilla making place. Another "must see" is an authentic ancient Mayan igloo bakery!

You may buy gas the old fashion way if you rent a vehicle from Tulum or Cancun or there is a Taxi service "combi" that goes into town every morning, returning in the afternoon.

The village has a medical facility with a Doctor and Nurse on site, and there is a telephone for emergency calls.

Marr y Greco Fishing Lodge

You can snorkel in water ranging from 2ft. to 30ft. There is a completely different world just below the waters surface. Marr Del Greco supplies the equipment, but you may bring your own if you have it.

Full Restaurant & Bar: Enjoy authentic Mexican food & fresh Caribbean seafood served 3 times a day with appetizers between meals. All beverages are included in the package: beer,wine hard alcohol &soft drinks.

Accommodations:
Each clean, beach front cabana has hot water, a shower, toilet & 2 double beds. One cabana sleeps 5 & has a marble shower & bath. 

Fly in to Cancun, rent a car, drive about 100 miles south to the small lobster diving village of Punta Allen, located at the tip of the peninsula. Along the way you will pass by Playa Carmen and Tulum where the asphalt will end…

Look for the Punta Allen sign and make a left and you are on your way. Along this road you will experience jungle settings, wild animals crossing the road, the Boca Paila bridge and several small Mayan ruins. Enter the six block long village of Punta Allen .
